English version

Emergency numbers and disaster safety in Korea: 119, 112, 1345, 1330 and 1366, emergency alert texts, and the Anjeon Didimdol and Emergency Ready apps

Last checked: 21 October 2026 · compared against 9 official sources opened that day

Accidents and disasters can happen before your Korean is good enough to cope. Knowing which number to call, what each kind of alert text means and which app gives disaster information in your language means you will not hesitate when it matters. We checked the 119 and 112 call acts, the disaster management act and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety rules on alert texts, Ministry of Justice and Korea Tourism Organization helpline information, the 1366 website and the ministry's June 2026 app update on 21 October 2026.

Numbers to save

119 is for fires, rescue and medical emergencies; 112 is the police, for crimes and incidents; 1345 is the Immigration Contact Center (charged); 1330 is the Korea Tourism Organization's travel and interpretation line; and 1366 is the women's emergency line for violence against women (charged). Think of 119 and 112 as life-and-safety numbers and the others as advice lines, and save them with a note of what each is for.

119: fire, rescue and ambulance

Article 4 of the 119 emergency call act lets anyone call 119 to ask for a rapid response when an emergency happens or is expected, and bans calls for other purposes or false reports. The Fire Agency coordinates call handling, information sharing and joint responses (Article 5), so details can be passed to the police or others when needed. Say what happened, exactly where (address or nearby buildings and signs) and how the injured person is. Keep your home and work addresses in Korean in a phone note. We could not confirm from the Fire Agency how 119 connects interpreters.

112: crime and threats

Article 4 of the 112 report act gives everyone the right to ask the state for a rapid response to crimes, incidents and accidents, and Article 18 fines false reports up to 5 million won. Call 112 for assault, theft, threats, illegal debt collection or any danger happening now.

1345: immigration questions

The Korea Immigration Service lists the Immigration Contact Center as 1345 with no area code (charged), and +82-2-1345 from abroad. Use it for questions about extensions, address changes and registration, not for emergencies. HiKorea gives its hours as Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 22:00, except public holidays. We could not confirm the languages offered on an official page, so listen to the menu when you call.

1330: travel help and interpretation

According to Hanam City's English page, the 1330 Korea Travel Helpline is a phone and live chat service run by the Korea Tourism Organization for tourist information, interpretation, complaints and connection to the tourist police. Dial 1330 in Korea or +82-2-1330 from abroad. Phone help is available in Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Vietnamese, Thai, Malay and Indonesian all year, with Vietnamese, Thai, Malay and Indonesian from 8:00 to 19:00; text chat runs 24 hours in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese, and there is no extra fee. It is a tourist service, so use 112 or 119 in an emergency.

1366: violence against women

The 1366 line offers emergency rescue, protection and counseling for women affected by violence, plus chat, KakaoTalk and online board counseling; its website notes the call is charged and links to counseling centers for domestic violence, sexual violence and prostitution and to Sunflower Centers. If you are in danger now, call 112 first. The similar-looking Danuri line, 1577-1366, is a separate helpline for multicultural families.

Three kinds of alert text

Article 38-2 of the disaster management act lets the interior minister and local leaders ask carriers to send alert texts. The ministry's rules sort phone alerts by severity: critical alerts, for large-scale disasters where everyone must be reached, cannot be switched off; emergency alerts, for terrorism, expected radioactive leaks, evacuation orders, heavy rain sent directly by the weather agency, severe flood information and landslide warnings, can be; and safety guidance texts, for advance evacuation advice, lifted evacuation orders and other warnings and advisories, can be too. Read the area and the instructions first, and keep the optional alerts on.

Anjeon Didimdol and the Emergency Ready App

On 15 June 2026 the ministry announced updates to its Korean-language Anjeon Didimdol (안전디딤돌) app and the Emergency Ready App for foreigners. The apps now detect your location and show the alert texts sent to that area on the first screen, list 43 types of safety facilities instead of 16, and give map directions to shelters. The Emergency Ready App provides alert texts, safety instructions and embassy information, and its languages grew from three (English, Chinese and Japanese) to 22, which the ministry says covers 97% of about 2.87 million foreign residents. The press release did not list all 22 languages, so check in the app.

Prepare now

Save the five numbers with their purposes, store your addresses in Korean, install one of the apps and set your language and location permission, make sure alert texts are switched on, find your nearest shelter on the map, and save your embassy's number.
